Crescent Visibility Report for Ramadan 1441 (29th of Shaban, Thursday 23rd April 2020)

Rise 05:38:34 05:55:06

Set 18:31:15 18:50:55
Azimuth (Degree)@18:00 ~281° 13.507`  ~276°54.109`
Altitude (Degree) @18:00 ~6° 29.978` ~10° 36.715`

Age of Moon: Waxing Crescent : ~ 0.48 days old. = 11.52 hrs old

Set Time difference : approx 20 minutes

The New Moon crecent first light will be in conjunction with the Sun on April 23rd @ 06:35UTC+4, and based on the astronomical calculations, the Crescent (Hilal) would be possible through CCD yet extreamly challenging to observe with naked eyes or with only optical aid on this day, beacuse of the Set Time diffrence and age of the Crescent which is very young.

Based on the Astronomical data report, the Sun sets at 6:31 Pm UTC+4 @ (282° WNW), and 6:51 pm @ (281° WNW) for the Moon which makes out around 20 minuets for the sighting before it sets below the true Horizon.

From this report, it is possible to sight the crecent “Hilal” with the help of optical Aid (Telescope) and CCD camera toagther, and the chances increases as we move towards the south west of the globe and or sighting at a higher altitude. It all depands on weather conditions at that place and time. Yet because of the Moon age and set time, it will be extreamly difficult to sight by naked eyes only including even is sighted with Opptical aid it will be a great challange. If sighted, Ramadan will start on Friday 24th April 2020, if not, Shaaban will continue its 3o days InShaAllah (If God Wills) ,this is what I highly presume will hapen according to the past reports and practical sightings.

From the calculations above, it is clearly Impossible to sight the crescent on this day for the following main reasons;

  • The New Crescent is not born yet. Still in waning stage
  • The Moon sets before the Sun

  1. Crescent Visibility Report for Ramadan 1441 (29th of Shaban, Thursday 23rd April 2020) Results updates: As predicted, the Crescent was not sighted by telescope or naked eyes. However it was possible to capture it during daylight by latest CMOS camera and telescope, but we don’t count that as official sighting. Therefore Shaban will continue its 30 day and Ramdan will start on Saturday 25 April 2020. InShaAllah. Ramdan Kareem and stay home safe.
