100 Hours of Astronomy 2nd update

Hope everyone around the world are enjoying the events. For us here in Oman is really a bad luck, because of the clouds… At the moment I can sit and watch the live events around the world in 80 telescopes. Please have a look at my previous post. Currently there are around 2000 viewers around the world and I’m watching it right at the moment while writing this post 🙂 .

Anyone want to join this great historical event, please contact your nearest national node at your country. Click here for more.

Hope everyone are having fun with the IYA events. For people in Oman like me, I say cloudy skies and towards a clear skies soon. Well I hope so.

100 Hours of Astronomy 2-5 April 2009 World Wide

100 Hours of Astronomy is a global astronomy event from 2 to 5 April when you can discover the Universe with the rest of the world! A project of the International Year of Astronomy, there are free public activities happening all around the world, and online right here.

The 100 Hours of Astronomy in Oman will take place in Al Sahwa gardens, Muscat near Muscat airport at around 6:00pm from 2-5 April.

On the evening of Sunday the 30th Nov and Monday the 1st December

Sky watchers across the world are in for a celestial treat Monday night as

two of the brightest naked-eye planets, Venus and Jupiter, join a thin

crescent moon to create a brief "happy face" in the sky.

ISS Space Junk Reentry ALERT

As Received from my e-mail yesterday 1st Nov 2008 from Space Weather News.

"More than a year ago, in July 2007, International Space Station astronauts threw an obsolete, refrigerator-sized ammonia reservoir overboard. Ever since, the 1400-lb piece of space junk has been circling Earth in a decaying orbit–and now it is about to reenter. If predictions are correct, the "Early Ammonia Servicer" (EAS for short) will turn into a brilliant fireball as it disintegrates in Earth’s atmosphere during the early hours of Monday, Nov. 3rd. Uncertainties in the exact reentry time are so great (plus or minus 15 hours at the time of this alert) that it is impossible to pinpoint where the fireball will appear. At the moment, every continent except Antarctica has some favorable ground tracks.

Readers should check our Satellite Tracker (http://spaceweather.com/flybys/) for possible overflights. Before reentry, the EAS will seem about as bright as a 2nd or 3rd magnitude star, similar to the stars of the Big Dipper. During re-entry, the disintegrating reservoir could light up like a full Moon. Flyby predictions should be regarded as approximate because the orbital elements of the EAS are now changing so rapidly. Well I just hope it wont hit anyone 🙂 . I wonder if it hits my car! Will the insurance company pay for it 🙂
